Blogging is a very popular way to promote your product or services. They are easy to set up, administer, and update. Search engines love them, but what is a blog without traffic? Exactly, but you knew that. Try these five techniques to boost traffic to your blog and start seeing those big sales.
1. Develop a “ping” list
Your ping list is a collection of blog services you notify when you've updated your blog. By notifying these services they will attract traffic to your new posts. See my ping list of 50+ blog services you can ping on my site. If you want to develop your own list, just search Google or any other search engines. This should be enough to give you an initial boost in your traffic.
2. Buttons to popular news readers
What are news readers? Sites like Yahoo, Google, or Bloglines etc., they have a member’s area where you can select the sites RSS feeds to fetch the latest updates from that sites’ blog. With a little effort you can have some of the latest updates from let's say 40 blogs from just one source. Take a look at my list of a few popular pages on my website along with the buttons linking to them. You can easily add my blog and other news reader in the member’s area here.
3. Deliver fresh content regularly
Search engines and blog services love regular updates. Posting regularly will help you get targeted traffic from search engines. Try and make a blog post every day. Be careful, too many posts per day can hurt your search engines position and hits. How many is too many? 10 or more.
4. Forum postings
Post in forums, not spamming them, but posts that add value and fit the overall theme of the forum. In your email signature include new and interesting links to your blog. Make sure your product or service will be of interest to the participants there. Don't just post in every forum. For example say you're selling CDs, post in forums that are about music and CDs. You wouldn’t post your furniture for sale in the car section. You will get one-way links in a forum which is good for search engine positioning in search engines like Google, MSN, or Yahoo.
5. Blogging search engines
There are ample search engines that list only blogs. Google, “blog search engines” there should you find at least 25 of them. Targeted traffic will come from these blog search engines. So be sure to write a catchy title and interesting description to your blog, so people will easily find you easily and click on your link.
Following these 5 steps you will start seeing lots more traffic to your blog. Then the sales will start coming in. Only update your blog with fresh and unused content you write yourself.
